Private By Default
Every new record you add to HomeBranches — documents, photos, maintenance history, appliances, anything — starts out private. That means only you can see it. Nothing is shared, published, or included in any report until you decide otherwise.
You can change a record's privacy at any time to Shared Family (visible to family members you invite) or Transferable (included in transfer packages you create for the next owner of your home).
Secure Authentication
You sign in with your own credentials — an email and password you choose, or your Google account. Passwords are stored using industry-standard one-way hashing so no one, including us, can read them. You can reset your password at any time from the sign-in page.
Secure Cloud Storage
Your files and records are stored in a modern cloud environment operated by a leading provider. Everything is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) between your device and our servers, and between our servers and storage.
Controlled Sharing
You decide what leaves your account and where it goes:
- Reports only include records you've selected. Private records are never auto-included.
- Shared links can be revoked at any time from the app.
- Emailed reports only go to the addresses you enter.
User-Controlled Transfer Packages
A transfer package is what you leave for the next owner of your home. It only contains records you've marked Transferable. Private and family-shared records are never included. Before you send a transfer package, you'll see a preview of exactly what it contains.
Data Protection Practices
- Access to your account is limited to you and anyone you explicitly invite.
- Our team only accesses account contents when needed to help you, investigate a security issue, or comply with the law — never for casual browsing.
- We follow the principle of least privilege internally, and review who has access on a regular basis.
- We keep secure, encrypted backups so your records aren't lost to a hardware failure.
- When you delete a record or close your account, we remove your data on a defined schedule.
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong
If we ever detect a security issue that affects your account, we'll tell you promptly and explain what happened and what to do. We treat this like something we'd want if the roles were reversed.
You're Always In Control
You can update privacy on any record, revoke a shared link, export your data, or close your account at any time. HomeBranches doesn't work by making it hard to leave — it works because you trust us.
